Workshop sparks up September

Start the school year with a cascade of sparks by enrolling in a free Sept. 18 session in Roseburg called “Building Developmental Relationships with Youth We Serve.”

Adults taking part in a June 15 workshop were so enthusiastic about the topic, this second gathering has been set to inspire more of those adults who work or volunteer with young people.  Activities in the all-day session follow the Search Institute’s framework on Developmental Assets. This includes the concept of identifying Sparks — defined as the qualities, skills or interests that allow young people to unleash energy and express their personalities.

Tools and exercises demonstrated in the workshop are designed to help mentors deepen connections with youth and enrich ties between both groups.

Morning refreshments and lunch will be served as part of the Sept. 18 workshop, which takes place from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Ford Community Room at the Douglas County Library.
