STEAM Summer Institute planned for August

Details are still taking shape, but we’d like to alert educators to an exciting professional development opportunity, taking place during a week in early to mid-August.

Dates will be announced for the STEAM Summer Institute, a smorgasbord of courses available to Douglas County educators at no charge. Curriculum is still under discussion, but is likely to include topics linked to project-based learning, Next Generation Science Standards, Vernier software and technology and IRIS, a system of evaluating teaching methods through videotaping classroom sessions. Organizers hope to be able to add pre-kindergarten courses as well.

Instructors will include local teachers fresh from a project-based learning conference in Napa, Calif.

Registration for the Umpqua Valley STEAM Hub-sponsored event will be scheduled in the spring. Keep an eye open in future Partners’ Posts, the DCPSS website and our Facebook page for details.
