STEAM Extravaganza goes virtual

This year’s STEAM Extravaganza has been put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but that won’t stop Umpqua Valley STEAM Hub from celebrating STEAM thinking in the month of May.

We’re taking the STEAM Extravaganza virtual by participating in STEM Week Oregon May 9-17 with STEAM/STEM Hubs across the state. STEM Oregon is hosting the sixth annual STEM Week, a state-wide movement to raise awareness, celebrate and engage in activities involving science, technology, engineering and math.

In recognition of the unique times we find ourselves in, STEM Oregon created this year’s theme to counter the likely fatigue caused by too much video conferencing, screen time and time cooped up indoors: “STE(A)M Unplugged: Explore your world, Design your world.”

The event will feature a new theme each day of the week, including: Make-It Monday; Take Apart Tuesday; What Are You Wondering Wednesday?; Think About It Thursday; Field Trip Friday; Sounds and Shadows Saturday; and Soaring Sunday. You can visit http://stemoregon.org/stem-week-oregon-2020/ to register and participate. Douglas County Partners for Student Success and the Umpqua Valley STEAM Hub will also be featuring activities that match each day’s theme at www.dcpss.org and on our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/UVRSH.
